Add A Touch Of Whimsy To This Year’s Winter Ball
Posted by Genesis Samson on 12/03/13
Winter balls, whether for charity or pleasure, are an exquisite black-tie affair. Women flock in long formal gowns, men strut their tuxedos, and venues are decked to the nines in expensive décor. Winter balls are typically exclusive events, but that doesn’t mean they should be dull or stuffy. Add a touch of whimsy to this year’s winter ball and make it one to remember!
Winter Wonderland Theme
Give your winter ball a true seasonal theme and ‘deck the halls’ like it’s a winter wonderland. Cover tables in fresh white linens, plant glistening crystal glassware at each place setting, and opt for wintery décor such as metal sleigh bells and fake snow. Complete the look by projecting images of snowflakes along the walls and lighting flickering candles on hanging chandeliers.
The décor is only half the battle; engaging guests and providing appropriate entertainment bears the rest. Ask attendees to dress in hues of white and blue (even something as simple as jewelry or a tie will do). Have the band play a few popular holiday songs. And during the dance, create a snow globe atmosphere by releasing white Corkscrew tissue confetti above the mingling socialites (you can drop in bulk from the ceiling or shoot clouds of confetti using 6” Continuous Flow Confetti Gerb Launchers). With so much magic in the air, the winter wonderland will feel so real.
Performance Artists
Often times, winter balls feature some kind of performance act – a string orchestra, a classic pianist, or maybe a jazz singer. It’s time to step it up a notch and hire artists that will bring more zing than zzz’s.
Is there a traveling acrobatic troupe coming through town? A team of local jugglers? A group of interpretive dancers? Find something unique that suits your venue and style. Conclude the night’s performance with a blast of streamers from X-6 Double Barrel Wireless Confetti Launchers! Present your guests with a moment like that and they’ll be talking about next year’s ball before they even leave.
Local Art Auction
Winter balls, particularly charity balls, are designed to raise money for a good cause. Asking for donations can make people feel uncomfortable. Inviting donations by holding an entertaining auction is a much more casual and lucrative idea.
To start, work with local artists to auction off their latest pieces of art. Then conduct a half silent, half celebratory auction. Begin with a silent auction by which attendees can casually bid for the art (silent is always best in these settings in order to maintain an air of elegance). However, when it comes time to announcing the auction winners, present the art to them in true flashy form. As winners approach the stage to pick up their art, shower them in confetti from 14” Flutter FETTI Confetti Sticks. It’s the best of both worlds and a great way to raise money!
